Photopea provides image editing with layers, masks, selections and customization in a browser window. You can open and save PSD files and import many other image formats. That's useful when you have to modify a design on a computer that doesn't have an image editing program.

The editor processes ordinary local files on your device. A large design with many layers therefore also requires sufficient memory and computing power in the browser. While working, save a PSD copy if you want to keep changing layers later; a PNG or JPEG export is meant as an end result.

Photopea also offers linked online capabilities, including cloud storage and AI features. Make a distinction between local editing and such an external function when working with confidential material. The free version shows ads. The service receives continuous updates and does not have a desktop version that you need to install separately for the visitor.

Who is it for?

You want to quickly edit a PSD or image, for example on a borrowed computer, without installing a desktop editor.

Getting started

Open the official web editor and choose your local file. First save an editable copy and then export an image for your website or recipient.

Privacy

Ordinary local image editing happens on your device. Ads, an account and selected cloud or AI functions may use external services; assess those features separately in confidential images.

Good to know

Ads in the free version. Large documents require a lot of memory. Online extras have other privacy implications

Please note

Save your work yourself before closing the tab. Large projects can use a lot of browser memory and you need to check complex PSD features after import.

Our verdict

Photopea is particularly strong when you need quick access to an extensive image editor. For incidental PSD operations it is a useful way out, provided you check the imported design and export. For long-term work on heavy files, a desktop program can be more pleasant. Always keep an editable copy next to your export; this will prevent a later text or layer change from becoming unnecessarily difficult.
