With OpenTyrian you can play the classic vertical shooter Tyren on current desktops, with the required game details in the official packages.

OpenTyrian brings the DOS game Tyrian to current computers. You're piloting a ship through vertical scrolling levels, avoiding enemies and using different weapons. You can choose a story mode or arcade form; there are also possibilities for two players.

The official release packages contain the freeware game data of Tyrian 2.1. So you don't have to look up an old DOS installation for those packages. However, unpack the entire archive so that the program can find the data provided. Self-built versions may require separately adding game dates.

Network game requires manual decor and is not a modern lobby in which you automatically find an opponent. Therefore, start playing locally and check your controls. The current release can save on Windows and Linux settings and progress next to the program when there is already an openyrian.cfg; this allows you to choose the storage location consciously.

Who is it for?

You like classic arcade shooters or you want to play Tyrian again without setting up a full DOS environment.

Getting started

Download the archive for your system, unpack everything and start OpenTyrian. Leave the data folder with the program. First test a local play session.

Privacy

You don't need an online account to play locally. In network game you connect to the other player and connection data is exchanged.

Good to know

Network game requires manual decor. Classic ministry requires habit. Mac app is not pleasureized
