OnionShare creates a Tor-onion service with which you can offer files. The receiver opens the corresponding onionlink with suitable Tor software. Your computer must remain accessible as long as you offer the files; this works differently than a permanent cloud link.

You can limit access and also use reception options. The link and any access key are sensitive: anyone who has access may be able to access the content provided. The speed depends, among other things, on Tor and your connection.

Our verdict

OnionShare is useful when the transfer mode is important and you do not want to use a standard upload service. You keep the offered files on your own computer and give targeted access via Tor. This is a different consideration than a link that stays on a cloud server for weeks.

Align with the receiver in advance how and when the transfer takes place. For someone without a Tor experience, an onionlink is not self-evident. In addition, check the contents and metadata of the files; a protected connection does not make a document with your name in it anonymous. For targeted transfer, OnionShare can fit well, for daily teamamps usually less.
