Mixxx

You use Mixxx to practice DJ transitions or play with your own music. It is not an ordinary streaming service and requires that you have suitable audio files and equipment available.

Download the stable version for your system. Set sound card, headphone output and any controller before having a large library analyzed.

Your music library can stay local. Online broadcasts and external metadata functions do make network connections; check them separately if you use them.

Check your controller and sound outputs before preparing a performance. A suitable audio interface may be required for listening separately.

Test your audio outputs and headphone routing before running live. Do not rely blindly on BPM analysis; some numbers are estimated at half or double speed.

Mixxx is a serious option to learn how to mix with your own music. The key is compatible equipment and a stable audio device, not only with the functions on the screen.

Choose Mixxx based on the complete setup with which you want to practice or spin. You need to be able to assess separately what goes to the headphones and to the speakers. Therefore check compatible hardware and audio settings before an important usage moment. Automatic tempo information remains something to judge by hearing. Play only albums is a regular music player easier; for transitions the extra controls offer their value.
