You can use Inkscape for web advertising, schematics, simple print designs and own image brands. It is especially useful when sharp lines on multiple formats are important. For extensive photoretouch, choose a pixel-oriented editor. In the case of printing, check in advance which file and color preparation are required.

First make your drawing in the desired page format. Save the SVG file and check an export for fonts and sizes.

You can store designs locally. When sharing SVGs, note embedded or linked images, text and document data. Use your extensions, then check their origin and function. A design with an internal file reference may be incomplete in a recipient or unintentionally reveal a local path.

A photo is not a sharp vector drawing by magnifying. For professional printing you have to check the requirements for colour and delivery separately.

Fonts on your computer are not present in the receiver. Check text view on transfer and save an editable version before converting text to paths. In addition, automatic overhang of a photo does not always provide a useful, simple vector design.

Inkscape suits you if you want to create scalable drawings, icons or logos. You work with shapes and paths instead of just using pixels. This allows you to use a design of different sizes. The quality depends on a neat structure: unnecessary points and loose objects make a simple change complicated later.

The programme has particular added value when the same design has to work in different sizes. Think of an icon that remains small and is also widely used. Check on transfer fonts and linked images. For someone who corrects only photos, scalable vector build is not a decisive advantage and an image editor is more obvious.
