FluffyChat is a chat client for the Matrix network. You sign in to a Matrix server and can then use calls and rooms. The app and server are separate parts: you don't have to choose a new network for every client if you have an appropriate Matrix account.

You can exchange messages, images and other files. Encrypted calls require attention to device verification and storage of recovery information. That's especially important when you get a new phone. A password for your account is not always enough to read old encrypted messages again.

FluffyChat is available for mobile devices, desktop and browser. Not every distribution appears at the same time. The version below is the current release from the project; the latest change concerns specifically the Android release in Google Play. Choose a server from which you understand the rules and storage conditions, especially if you are going to use the app for an association or working group.

Who is it for?

You want to chat via Matrix with a clear client and you can choose which server your account manages. For a group it is useful to make the same agreements about accounts and recovery in advance.

Getting started

Choose an official download for your device or open the web client. Sign in to your Matrix server and immediately set up verification and recovery of encrypted messages.

Privacy

The selected Matrix server processes account and connection data. End-to-end encryption protects the content of previously arranged calls, but not automatically all metadata. Notification services vary according to platform and installation.

Our verdict

FluffyChat is a useful choice if you want to use Matrix without a heavy business chat program. The most important work is not just in the app: a suitable server and good recovery settings help determine your experience. When decorating a group, take the time to explain device verification. For people who already have a Matrix account, switching is more straightforward, but first check that the required room functions and notifications in your release fit correctly.
