Floorp is a Firefox-based Ablaze browser that allows you to customize the workspace extensively. You divide tabs into workspaces and use split view when you want to view two pages at once. A side panel can show an additional website without constantly switching tabs.

The browser also has Floorp Notes for notes. You can adjust the layout to administration, study or private use. Workspaces are mainly a way to keep an overview; do not automatically consider them as completely separate identities or separate security environments.

If you want to switch within the Firefox family, look at the default settings in addition to extensions. Some variants focus on privacy, others on vertical tabs or more setting options. Importing bookmarks doesn't automatically mean that all your settings and saved sessions will go along.

Getting started

Install the stable desktop release, import your bookmarks and create a small set of workspaces. Set synchronization only for data you need on other devices.

Privacy

You continue to decide which websites you log in to and what data you synchronize. Another workspace doesn't hide your identity from the same website. Use real containers or separate profiles where necessary.

Good to know

Not every Firefox extension connects to the custom operation. Floorp for iOS is still in development and is offered separately via TestFlight.

Please note

Import important data only after you have a spare of your old browser profile. The mobile iOS version is still a separate test version and is not part of the stable desktop download.

The Firefox base has been updated and Floorp Notes processes simultaneous synchronization better.

Version 12.17.2 uses Firefox 155. With Floorp Notes, local changes are no longer mistakenly considered synchronized. Overlapping sync tasks are processed in order, so that an older result does not overwrite newer sync status.

Our verdict

Floorp is useful if your browser is at the same time your workplace: you compare information, keep a reference page open and switch between different topics. Split view and web panels can then prevent you from moving windows each time. For easy reading and searching, an extensive decor is less necessary.

Start with two or three workspaces that connect to what you really do. Then check that side panels and notes help you, instead of just adding them because it can. Please also note the difference between ordering and privacy: for different accounts you have to use containers or profiles knowingly, not just another workspace name.
