You create a CSV overview of files and metadata from the command line.

FileList writes file names, paths, size and time stamps to a list. You can filter and record additional metadata supported by Windows.

The output is usable in a spreadsheet or database. The current build asks 64-bit Windows 10 1809 or newer, or a supported Windows Server version.

A CSV file list is useful for inventory or comparison with a previous recording. Choose in advance which folders you want to bring and which metadata you need. So you avoid a large report that doesn't answer the actual question.

When processing in a spreadsheet, note separators, dates and text fields. Long paths or special characters must be read correctly. The list contains information about files, but does not store the contents of those files.

Version 5.0 (64-bit Windows release). FileList has switched to 64 bits. For older 32-bit systems, the product page refers to previous versions. The CHM manual has been replaced with a PDF file.

Our verdict

FileList is useful for an inventory that you want to sort or compare later. Choose only columns you need and check a small folder before going through an entire disk. The program makes an overview, no backup of the files. Therefore, keep the CSV as an administration with your real storage management.
