Ente Auth is an authenticator for the additional codes you enter at two-step verification. You add accounts and use the corresponding temporary codes next to your password. The app is free and has clients for desktop and mobile devices.

You can keep your codes with encrypted backups available on multiple devices. This helps when you replace a phone or also want to log in from your computer. There are import options for other authenticators, so you don't always have to re-enter an existing collection manually.

An authenticator is only one part of your recovery plan. Also keep the service recovery codes in a safe place. After a switch, first check that the codes work on some accounts and that your access on your second device is correct. Do not delete your old decor until you are sure that you can continue to log in.

Getting started

Install the app and set up your backup and recovery data. First add an account or import a small selection. Check the codes and synchronization before removing an old authenticator.

Privacy

Ente Auth uses end-to-end encryption for the backup data. An unlocked device on which your codes are visible remains sensitive. Therefore, do not secure your computer and phone and share exports via an unsecured route.

Good to know

You also need to arrange your recovery and device access properly. An insecurely stored export can expose your second factor.

Please note

Save the recovery codes of your accounts separately. An export with authenticator secrets gives access to the second factor and deserves the same care as a password safe.

Ente Auth is a useful choice if you want to be less dependent on one phone for your verification codes. Especially the combination of multiple devices and encrypted backups helps to replace or lose hardware. You'll have to do the switch in a controlled manner. Keep old codes and recovery options available until you have checked the new device; convenience should not mean that your only recovery route disappears.
