Anki

Anki suits vocabulary, definitions, factual knowledge and other material you need to recall regularly. It works well for practice spread over several days. For skills such as understanding a calculation or writing an argument, also complete real exercises: recognising a flashcard does not demonstrate that skill.

Create a small deck of your own and practise for a few days before importing many cards. Check shared decks for errors and relevance to your course material.

Your collection is stored locally; syncing through AnkiWeb is optional. Consider this choice carefully for cards containing personal information or your own recordings. Do not also place the active Anki data folder under general-purpose file syncing. Its database must remain consistent and is not designed for independent changes by several syncing tools.

You need to understand and check the content yourself. Mobile apps and services associated with Anki do not all have the same provider or price.

Automatic backups do not necessarily include all your media files. For a complete transfer, create an appropriate collection export including media and check it in a safe location. Adding hundreds of new cards at once can sharply increase your future review workload. Understand the difference between restoring and syncing before overwriting a collection.

Anki is particularly useful for retaining knowledge over time. Make cards that prompt you to actively recall what you know, then assess your answer. Repetition works best when each card asks one clear question. Importing a large deck offers little benefit if you do not understand the answers or each card mixes several topics.

A sustainable daily workload matters more than immediately importing an entire subject. First check whether you can answer each question briefly and understand why the answer is correct. If cards mainly contain long explanations that you must reread each time, revise their content. Repetition alone cannot make an unclear question useful.
